Energy and the working environment
Environmental concerns are important for us all and, importantly, the following generations. Lowering our carbon footprint and energy usage is essential and a Smart Building takes these principles and builds a system that optimises the whole building environment into a homogenous and synchronised system.
Targeting
Targeting is the process achieved by building an optimum baseline which calibrates the energy usage and environmental aspects of each individual building once that building has been commissioned. The baseline or building profile is then used to monitor the building and its performance.
Efficiencies
Intelligent buildings ensure running costs are minimised, the workplace environment is comfortable and productive, CO2 footprint reductions occur and environmental quality is maximised.
Monitoring
24/7 monitoring ensures baseline usage is adhered to within operational thresholds. Alarms are triggered when certain usage, temperature or pressure parameters fall below the baseline or target thresholds.
The alarm signals that are raised are usually sent to the Facilities or Building Manager for investigation. Usually, it is as simple as a window being left open but it could also be that a component has failed, a relay or a valve for example.
Once the zone and failure have been identified, the problem can either be rectified or a support call can be placed with us to investigate.
As well as the alarms being sent via email and/or SMS, the client will have access to their own unique dashboard (Phil: screenshots of a monitoring dashboard). This dashboard is provided as part of our commissioning service and is specific to each client and delivers a monitoring system to enable important parameters to be visually assessed to forewarn on possible failures or problems. A proactive system such as this provides reassurance that all systems are operating as expected and you don’t rely just on alarms when they happen.
